Ercall Wood Academy

Empower | Respect | Aspire

Here at Ercall Wood we study the AQA History specification.

The course is assessed by exam and the exams are held in June. This year there will be two papers. One of 2 hours and one of one hour.

History this year has been reduced to three units they are:

- America, 1920–1973: Opportunity and inequality

- Conflict and tension between East and West, 1945–1972

- Restoration England, 1660–1685

The detailed list of the knowledge required is on the following slides.

In terms of revision we expect our students to revise History for at least one hour per week and ideally the hour should be undertaken in 15 min bursts and should follow the 4-step revision plan outlined later in this presentation.

We are providing supported revision packs on show my homework on a weekly basis to help them to structure their revision.

In class and in our compulsory homework we are working on recall with regular quizzes that draw on knowledge from across the whole course.

In the second half of the Autumn term we will be offering face to face after school sessions focussing on skills.

We will have finished the content of the course by February half term at which point we can focus on developing and embedding the skills our students will need to showcase their knowledge in the exams. This means that they will get far more out of the preparation lessons if they have already revised the content of the course so it is really important that all history students use the next few months to learn the knowledge.
