REMINDER - Strike Dates

Friday 21st April 2023
Dear parent / carer,
Teacher Strike Action – Thursday 27th April and Tuesday 2nd May 2023
Unfortunately, there has yet to be an agreement between the Unions and the government over funding for teachers’ pay and conditions.

NEU members will therefore be on strike leading to significant disruption to the normal academy day on Thursday 27th April and 2nd May. As things stand, we will only be open to Year 11 and a small, invited group of students who either have additional special educational needs, social care involvement or who we deem would benefit from being in the academy. We will also be inviting a selected group of Year 10 students for bespoke coursework sessions. Students will receive a permission slip to attend these sessions. Those not in the academy in years 7, 8, 9 & 10, will again be switching to home learning for both days.

Home learning plan
The work for years 7, 8, 9 & 10 for the strike day will be set on Satchel One (Show My Homework). Work will be set to allow the students to complete a variety of lessons on the day. We recommend that students complete the work following the timetable below:

Lesson Year 7 Year 8 Year 9 Year 10
1 Maths Maths Science English
2 English Science Maths Science
3 Humanities Humanities English Maths
4 Independent Reading Independent Reading Independent Reading Independent revision on option subjects.
5 Science English Humanities Humanities

I’m sorry that some families will have to make alternative arrangements for children at short notice, and for the disruption to their education. We have attempted to minimise this as far as possible, following DfE guidance. We remain committed to providing a safe and secure environment for our students and delivering high-quality teaching.

We are working closely with our staff union representatives to keep up to date with the situation, and I will inform you as soon as possible if arrangements change further.
Thank you for your ongoing support as always.

Kind regards
Mr R Gummery
Principal
